Sinopsis

De Tristibus (Sorrows) and Epistulae ex Ponto (Letters from the Black Sea) are two collections of poems written by Ovid during his exile. Banished by the Roman emperor Augustus to Tomis, a remote town on the Black Sea, Ovid laments his fate and pleads for a pardon. De Tristibus, consisting of five books, details Ovid?s journey into exile and his despair. The Epistulae ex Ponto, in four books, continue his appeals, addressed to various friends and figures in Rome, seeking their help in securing his return. These works offer a poignant glimpse into Ovid?s personal struggles and provide valuable insights into the political and social climate of Augustan Rome. Through vivid imagery and emotional expression, Ovid?s poems explore themes of loss, longing, and the power of friendship, solidifying their place as significant contributions to classical literature. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
