An autobiography of a working-class academic, brought up on an inner-London council estate who lectured at UCL, became Head of the Museum Research Lab at the J. Paul Getty Museum and founded the UCLA/Getty Conservation Training Programme at UCLA. Professor Scott is the author of 150 peer-reviewed papers and nine books. His book, Copper and Bronze in Art won the prize as the best scholarly art book published in the USA in 2002. His last book, Art: Authenticity, Restoration, Forger, published by the UCLA Press, gained many favorable reviews. He continues to research the subjects of art restoration, ancient metals and the philosophy of conservation.
