Sinopsis

Belfagor: A Tale is a novella written by Niccolo Machiavelli in 1549 and published posthumously in 1840. The story follows the demon Belfagor, who is sent to Earth by Satan to investigate the cause of the increasing number of complaints from humans about their marriages. Belfagor takes on the form of a wealthy merchant and marries a woman named Onesta, but soon discovers the difficulties and challenges of married life. He becomes disillusioned with human nature and decides to return to Hell, but is stopped by a group of exorcists who force him to remain on Earth. The novella explores themes of marriage, human nature, and the struggle between good and evil. It is considered one of Machiavelli?s lesser-known works, but still showcases his wit and satirical style. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
